Shawky graduated with a BS with honors in electronics and electrical communications engineering from Cairo University’s Faculty of Engineering in 1996. At Cairo University, she earned her MS degree in computer engineering in 2000, a diploma in engineering mathematics in 2001, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in computer science in 2005.
She kicked off her professional career in 1996 as a research assistant at the Electronic Research Institute. From 1998 to 2005, she worked as an instructor and then teaching assistant of engineering mathematics at Cairo University’s Faculty of Engineering. This was followed by an assistant professor position and subsequently, her currently held associate professor position at the same university.
Shawky’s research focus areas lie in computer-supported collaborative learning, software engineering, cloud computing, reverse engineering, computational intelligence and data analysis. Shawky has published her work in many esteemed journals and conferences.
Shawky is a member of several prestigious societies including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Computer Society, the IEEE Cloud Computing Community, the International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology, and the International Association of Engineers.
